Softphone Apps for Windows

To program any app or device, you will need your Password Summary Email, which was sent shortly after your number was activated.

You can view your Email History in the Account portal if you need to find it.

There are dozens of softphone apps available for Windows, and you can use any app that supports the voiSip (SIP) protocol.

We currently recommend Microsip or Linphone for a free, basic softphone.

Try Dialplate (about $25) if you need a full featured app for business, especially for an operator or receptionist.

Again, you can use any app that supports the SIP protocol.  You just need to know the 4 "generic" SIP settings shown below.

Username: [your 10 digit CLONE LINE number; or your pbx extension number]
Password: [your CLONE LINE SIP device password; or your pbx extension "secret"]
Server: [any CLONE LINE SIP server, refer to your password summary page; or  your pbx server address]
Port: [5060 or any CLONE LINE SIP port, refer to your password summary page; or your pbx registration port]

List of popular Windows Softphone Apps, from most to least recommended.

  • Microsip : Free and easy to setup and use.  Works with your voiSip number or as a cloud pbx extension.  Has simple 3 Way Conference Bridge, and basic BLF features (Contact Status).
  • Linphone : Free and open source.  It is a bit odd to get used to, but has a pretty nice multi line conference feature.  Choose "Use a SIP account" when setting it up initially.
  • Dialplate : A more advanced pay app for business users, has 3 Way Conference and BLF buttons.  Very slick.  Cost is about $25 at time of this article.
  • Zoiper : Free version has ads for pay version. To use it, just create a new generic account with your voiSip number or a cloud pbx extension.  Does not support 3 way Conference Bridge or BLF buttons.
  • Bria (formerly Xlite) : This used to be our favorite until they changed to a subscription model.  There is still a free version, but more tedious to register, has ads, etc.
